Why Choose BETASERON

Why Choose BETASERON?

It's important to find the MS treatment that fits your needs and lifestyle. BETASERON offers some benefits that may make it the right choice for you:

  • Every-other-day dosing
  • The thinnest needle (30 gauge) in MS treatment
  • Refrigeration-free storage for more than 30 days for convenient storage and easy traveling*
  • In the BENEFIT study, immediate treatment with BETASERON delayed conversion to clinically definite MS (CDMS). Immediate treatment delayed conversion by 50% overall (P<.0001). The most common interferon-beta-1b-associated adverse events (AEs) were injection site reactions and flu-like symptoms. The frequency of both adverse events were substantially lower in the second year with the use of titration and over-the-counter analgesics.
  • Common side effects, such as flu-like symptoms ie, body aches, may decrease over time for most people and may be manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers and titration1
  • Gives you access to BETAPLUS™, the MS support program rated best** by physicians for affordable therapy, copay assistance, and nurse access and training
  • The first FDA-approved high-dose, high-frequency interferon beta, for use from the first MS event

To help you and your healthcare team decide which multiple sclerosis therapy is right for you, make a list of the benefits that are most important to you and use it when you talk to your healthcare team.

* BETASERON is the only immunomodulatory MS therapy that can be stored at room temperature for more than 30 days. If not used immediately after reconstitution, the product should be refrigerated and used within 3 hours.

† Defined as progression in EDSS score of 1 point sustained for 6 months and confirmed at the end of the study. Ability to delay progression to clinically definite MS (CDMS) when used from the first event suggestive of MS.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

BETASERON® (interferon beta-1b) is indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis to reduce the frequency of clinical exacerbations. Patients with multiple sclerosis in whom efficacy has been demonstrated include patients who have experienced a first clinical episode and have MRI features consistent with multiple sclerosis.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

The most commonly reported adverse reactions are lymphopenia, injection-site reaction, asthenia, flu-like symptom complex, headache, and pain. Gradual dose titration and use of analgesics during treatment initiation may help reduce flu-like symptoms. BETASERON should be used with caution in patients with depression. Injection-site necrosis has been reported in 4% of patients in controlled trials. Patients should be advised of the importance of rotating injection sites. Female patients should be warned about the potential risk to pregnancy. Cases of anaphylaxis have been reported rarely. See "Warnings," "Precautions," and "Adverse Reactions" sections of full Prescribing Information.

You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088.
